A while back I was sent TheBalm Balm Shelter Tinted Moisturizer for review and it took me a while to use it as I just didn't think it would work for me. And... ummm... yeah, I should have used it earlier as it's actually not bad. Not bad at all. In fact I'd go so far as to say for a tinted moisturiser it's pretty darn good.
TheBalm Balm Shelter TM in Medium |
My thoughts
- It's very thick and creamy but without that heavy sticky feeling.
- For a tinted moisturizer it actually provides very good coverage.
- It has a satin finish, i.e. it's not matte but not overly dewy either.
- Feels lovely on the skin and is non-drying (I don't know why but some tinted moisturisers I've tried in the past have been quite drying, despite the word moisturizer being in the name!)
- On my skin it lasts about 4 hours and then starts wearing off around my chin and nose. This would be a deal breaker if this was a foundation, but for a tinted moisturiser I think that's pretty good!
- It's great for those days when you don't want a lot of coverage, and perfect for travel especially since it is SPF18.
- It is expensive - at $34.95 a tube, some people would prefer to pick up a foundation instead.
- Available at David Jones.
Wearing TheBalm Balm Shelter TM in Medium |
The bottom line
I was pleasantly surprised at how good this tinted moisturiser was, and loved the glow it gave my skin. However despite the great coverage, I would never wear this on a day when I wanted my makeup to last longer than 4 hours, e.g. I would never wear this to work. But for lazy days lounging around the house or to wear on holidays this is perfect.
Do you wear tinted moisturisers or do you prefer foundations?

I know, it's pretty good considering it's a tinted moisturiser.
DeleteThis looks amazing on you! I have the same philosophy about tinted moisturises, although I do have problem skin. I switch between Smashbox Studio Skin, which is a medium to full coverage that stays put perfectly all day, and the Laura Mercier TM. I have no trouble with fading or wearing with it, which is suprising considering my oily skin type - having said that, I do use mattifying primers and powders.
ReplyDeleteI've heard so many good things about the Laura Mercier TM but I'm yet to try it. I'm just worried about it fading especially since it costs so much! But maybe I'll try it at the shops first and see if like it before committing to it.
DeleteDon't you look gorgeous?!
ReplyDeleteI have a love/hate relationship with BB creams and tinted moisturisers, but lately I've found that the oily to combination BB cream from Garnier actually works very well!
I'm adding this one to my list of things to try!
xx
Awww thank you!
DeleteMy cousin was actually trying to get me to try the Garnier BB cream but I kept saying no as I too have a love/hate relationship with most BB creams. Maybe I'll try it after all! xo
Oh, I have no luck with BB creams/tinted moisturisers. I desperately want them to work on me, because I think sometimes it'd be nice not to wear such a full face, but they really just don't last on my skin. This one sounds promising, however and your skin looks flawless! x
ReplyDeleteHiya! I have just discovered your blog and have book marked it immediately! This is exactly the kind of thing I love to read and will look forward to more posts from you(especially the amazing recipes you post).
ReplyDeleteI have just done a review on the Clarins Instant Light Skin Perfector and would love it if you stopped by! www.gollygloss@blogspot.com
